Update: Following further analysis and troubleshooting, we determined that an older Skynet server, bb8, had experienced a hardware failure, resulting in the system overheating and subsequently burning out. This triggered the smoke alarm on Friday. Additional Skynet servers - ephemeral-3, and fiona - also experienced hardware failures and will no longer turn on. We are currently investigating the status of similarly old systems still in use in the Skynet cluster.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
The following servers have been taken offline, and troubleshooting will resume on Monday morning.

Affected servers:
landru
bb8
ephemeral-3
fiona

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
Servers were taken offline in response to the fire alarm in the College of Computing Building at 4:29pm, Friday, October 10th, 2025. The servers were identified as potential sources for the smoke that triggered the fire alarm.

WHO IS AFFECTED?
