WHAT'S HAPPENING?

A campus wide communication went out in mid-July regarding the retirement of FireEye and the rollout of Cortex XDR as the campus's Anti-Malware software (a copy of the original message is below). In an effort to best support the College of Computing, TSO will be proactively performing the uninstall of FireEye and the install of Cortex XDR prior to the campus cutover in mid-September.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

This work will be performed in batches between 8/11/21 and 9/15/21.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

If any issues arise from the removal of FireEye or the installation of Cortex XDR, please reach out to the Help Desk immediately for assistance.

If your computer is not currently managed by TSO, please use the instructions below to uninstall FireEye and install Cortex XDR so that your computer is protected and is in compliance with the campus Cybersecurity Policy.

WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?

Feel free to contact the TSO Help Desk (helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu).

Greetings Georgia Tech Community:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT), in partnership with the distributed IT community, has selected new anti-malware (antivirus) software to replace the current software, FireEye HX. Palo Alto Cortex XDR will be deployed to Institute-owned devices in phases, starting now and continuing throughout the fall. Once installed, the XDR shield icon will appear in the taskbar of devices.

This software is intended for Institute-owned machines only and is required by Cybersecurity Policy

  • If your machine is managed by IT staff, no action is required on your part. Please wait for your IT support to remove FireEye and install XDR.
  • If you manage your own Institute-owned machine, please uninstall FireEye HX and install Cortex XDR located at https://software.oit.gatech.edu before October.

All questions about this change can be submitted to xdr@security.gatech.edu

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Sincerely,
