  • Upcoming Research On-Site Office Hours:

  • Departing Employee Equipment
    • With the USG’s renewed focus on cybersecurity, there is a specific emphasis on physical security. When an employee leaves the College, their equipment should be returned to their supervisor; this includes Graduate Research Assistants or other student workers who have been issued Georgia Tech-owned equipment. The Help Desk will work with the supervisor to take possession of any computers and store them until they are needed again.

TSO BY THE NUMBERS:

838 new tickets received, and 887 tickets resolved since the last newsletter.

WHO TO CONTACT FOR HELP:

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • The web team launched the updated version of the Machine Learning at Georgia Tech website - https://ml.gatech.edu
  • The Help Desk welcomed new and returning Student Assistants this month. Keep an eye out for them as they assist across our 4 buildings - https://support.cc.gatech.edu/inside-tso/student-assistants
  • The TSO Research Support team has acquired two SpacemiT K3 Pico-ITX systems for deployment in our heterogeneous cluster environment. The K3 is particularly interesting as an early RVA23-compliant RISC-V platform, providing researchers access to a newer generation of the open RISC-V architecture and its expanded vector and other modern instruction-set capabilities.
  • Team Instruction completed their normal semesterly patching, ensuring that course resources are updated and secure. One of the main resources, PACE-ICE, recently had $750,000 worth of equipment and upgrades purchased to augment this campus cluster – we expect the new computing nodes to be online later this year!

TSO TID BITS:

The importance of a single letter: This month, we received a ticket with the ominous title “Dropping of a computer.” Luckily for everyone involved, they meant ‘off,’ and no equipment was harmed in the process!
