WHAT’S HAPPENING?
TSO will begin testing a new tool, Admin By Request (ABR), to separate escalated privileges from user accounts and provide just-in-time admin access.
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
Testing has begun, but full rollout of the ABR tool will be announced at a later date.
WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
Georgia Tech Cybersecurity and distributed campus IT partners have initiated a phased rollout of the Institute’s Computer Security Standard (CSS). As part of standard STND 02a-14 - “Admin permissions are separate from user permissions”, GT Cyber introduced a new tool called Admin By Request (ABR). ABR is a ‘Privileged Access Management’ tool, allowing users to run in a secure "standard user" mode. When users need to install software or make system changes, they can request admin rights on-demand for a limited time.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
TSO will work directly with users to begin this testing.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
No user action is required. If you wish to be part of this testing, please reach out to the Help Desk.
WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
Feel free to contact the TSO Help Desk (CCB 225D, 404.894.7065, helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu).
