Answer

About Dropbox:

Dropbox is a cloud storage platform available to GT users that facilitates an efficient and collaborative work environment.  Because it is cloud-based, files can easily be accessed online through a web-browser, through a desktop app, or through a mobile app.  Users can quickly create, edit, and share files with individuals, groups, or publicly.  Sharing permissions for files are also flexible and easy to navigate.

Account eligibility:

Who is eligible for a Dropbox account?

Faculty and staff will have Dropbox account access using their GT email address and password.

Students, Tech temps, and affiliates, must request a Dropbox account at the link below:

Dropbox accounts for campus guests are not available.

Signing in:

When signing in, be sure to use your standard email address (gburdell3@gatech.edu) as opposed to an email alias (george.burdell@cc.gatech.edu).  The login window will recognize that you have an account associated with GT, direct you to the SSO page, and prompt you for DUO authentication.

File ownership - Individual vs. Team:

Individual:
Once signed into Dropbox, users will be able to create directories within their account. By default, these directories will only be accessible by the account owner.  Directories, subdirectories, or individual files can quickly and easily be shared with others.

Team:
A Dropbox team is a central repository for your group's files.  TSO can create a Dropbox team for your group upon request.  We'll need a concise name for the Team and a list of the users who will need access.  Once created, users will see the shared team folder after signing into Dropbox.

Access to a specific Dropbox Team:

TSO has the flexibility to grant individuals access to a Dropbox team folder based on their affiliations with their department, with CoC, with GT, and more.  Alternatively, access can be granted temporarily and set to expire on a specific date.

Version control:

Dropbox tracks activity performed on files and users are able to see when a file was changed and who made the changes.  Version history also allows previous versions of the file to be restored or downloaded.

Data security:
